1Set up wards and beds

  1. 1

    Create a ward

Go to “Inpatient” → “Create ward”. Enter the name, code, type, gender and category, and the bed-day service code so bed charges are billed.

  2. 2

    Add beds

Click “Add beds” and enter bed numbers separated by commas.

  3. 3

    Bed board

The “Bed board” shows every bed: available, occupied or waiting to be cleaned. Click “Mark clean” when a bed is ready again.

2Admit a patient

  1. 1

    Start

Click “Admit patient” (or admit from the visit).

  2. 2

    Details

Choose the patient, admission type (Elective or Emergency), payer, admission diagnosis, ward and bed, then “Admit”.

  3. 3

    One admission at a time

A patient who is already admitted cannot be admitted again until discharged. You are told which ward and bed they are in, with “Open the current admission”.

3Care on the ward

  1. 1

    Notes & rounds

Add a “Nursing note”, “Doctor’s round”, “Progress note” or “Handover”.

  2. 2

    Vitals

    Record vitals through the day.

  3. 3

    Fluid chart

Record intake and output; the 24-hour balance is calculated.

  4. 4

    Medication orders

Doctors prescribe on the ward with the same pick-lists as in OPD. Orders go to the pharmacy.

  5. 5

    Medication round (MAR)

On the “Medication (MAR)” tab each due dose is listed. Mark it “Given”, “Held”, “Refused” or “Missed” with a reason. Nothing is ever silently overwritten.

  6. 6

    Transfer

Use “Transfer” to move the patient to another bed or ward and give the reason.

4Discharge

  1. 1

    Final diagnosis

Choose the final diagnosis from the diagnosis list.

  2. 2

    Discharge summary

Write the summary, discharge medications, outcome and follow-up.

  3. 3

    Take-home medicines

On the Discharge tab add the discharge prescription. It goes to Pharmacy under “Discharge drugs”, is charged to the admission bill and is printed on the discharge summary.

  4. 4

    Discharge

Click “Discharge (bed-day charges posted)”. Bed-day charges are added to the bill and the bed becomes free for cleaning.

  5. 5

    Print

Print the discharge summary on your letterhead for the patient.
